A little less thumb...*NOT FOR THE WEAK OF HEART*
Posted on January 19, 2006
Tuesday I was cutting some onions, in hopes of putting them in Wednesday's lunch. This was the first time I had used my 6" Wusthof since an intense sharpening several weeks prior to Christmas. Well, I will never forget the feeling I experienced that night. Have you ever cut chicken? You know that feeling on the handle of the knife? The resistance? Yeah - imagine that feeling in your right hand and the feeling of the tip of your thumb being sliced of your left hand. Now - ever get the juice of an onion in your eye, imagine that burn in an open wound....
Needless to say, wow - that hurt a lot!
The good news is (and it is good) Frank & Tracy, my upstairs neighbors, were having dinner guests. They happen to National Park Rangers (Frank & Tracy have spent a lot of time in National Parks and the Peace Corps). I calmly shut off the stovetop, wrapped my thumb in a paper towl and walked upstairs where the four of them jumped up from the table, looked at my flappy thumb tip and helped me wrap it. Frank then handed me a beer and said, you might want to go to the doctor tomorrow if your thumb changes color or anything funny like that.
Needless to say my thumb has begun the process of healing, but I still need to keep it wrapped when I'm doing stuff around the house (cause it hurts like you wouldn't believe when I stub it) and when I'm at the office (cause iat ain't pretty).
Oh yeah, I can't do dishes either - another bonus!!
