...world of the whacko....

Posted on June 15, 2005

A gentleman visited our class today that apparently is a big guy in the Vermont film scene. At some point, he plugged his latest project. Vermont Commons ( http://www.vtcommons.org/ ) . What a bunch of crazy people that are so far gone, they have diluted themselves into thinking that actually removing Vermont from the USA would be a good thing. F*#C*#NG WHACKO.

Here is a quote from the site:
>Why does Vermont want to secede?

First, the United States suffers from imperial overstretch and has become unsustainable politically, economically, agriculturally, socially, culturally, and environmentally. Second, Vermont finds it increasingly difficult to protect itself from the debilitating effects of big business, big agriculture, big markets, and big government, who want all of us to be the same—just like they are. Third, the U.S. Government has lost its moral authority because it is owned, operated, and controlled by corporate America. Fourth, American foreign policy, which is based on the doctrine of full-spectrum dominance, is immoral, illegal, unconstitutional, and in violation of the United Nations charter. Fifth, as long as Vermont remains in the Union, its citizens face curtailed civil liberties, the risk of terrorist attack, and the risk of military conscription of its youth.

First off - VERMONT DOESN'T WANT TO SECEDE! ONLY A SMALL PORTION OF VERMONTERS (who are probably not Vermonters anyway). Sure, if VT secedes, everyone can smoke weed and not pay taxes; but seriously folks.
Secondly - If you are that unsatisfied with the US, you have two options: 1) GET THE HELL OUT 2) Do something about it that will have a positive effect on it. If you focused the same amount of energy on the issues you are concerned about as you did on trying to run away from them by seceding maybe something could get done.
Thirdly - I'm not claiming to be a part of the right, but you make things out to be so bad if you live in the US that you think you should become a seperate country, try living in Iraq, Iran, Chile, anywhere in the Former Soviet Union, - wait, try living anywhere other than here and then tell me that America is so f*($&n* bad.....I do believe I've gotten myself a little worked up!

In so far as Vermont being a country of itself several hundred years ago, that is totally taken out of context. If the case today were like it was then, I would be all for seceding. The thing is, it isn't even close.

When Vermont stopped recognizing the US, it was because people from New York and New Hampshire were attempting to force the Vermonters out. Each state, in addition to the farmers that lived in Vermont, all laid claim to the fertile land. So, Ethan Allen and the rest of the Vermont Militia kicked everyone's ass out and did it their way for two whole years. Notice that Vermont joined the Union after the Union recognized that the land battle was an issue.

So to everyone who likes to take history out of context, I hear Quebec wants to secede; why don't you go and try to be important there and LEAVE MY STATE ALONE!
