This lecture is pretty interesting. Some tangents are less interesting than others, but over all it is useful. The only thing about this lecture is that I have not taken notes. One would ask why, and the answer is simple - I have taken several workshops in copyright (thank you CTL) issues. The last one was approx two weeks before SIMSI started and was a part of the language department training. On top of this fact, Mr. Schaffer provided us with a hard copy of his .ppt presentation!

One or two things that I have found particularly helpful that were not in prior workshops:
1) Issues of product placement in video vs regular usage and copyright included in that mess.
2) Public Domain information: (http://www.copyright.cornell.edu/training/copyrightterm.pdf)
3) Use of media clips in our documentary films. (Use of news clips to tell your story VS ex: use of media clips from FOX in OUTFOXED.)
4) What happens if, in your shoot, there is music in the background? What if you want ot use classical music by Bach or Mozart?
5) Fair use in the context of background visuals. (ex: a poster of Star Wars over the shoulder of an interviewee.) Then a subquestion: What if someone were wearing a "Nike" or "Star Wars" tee-shirt.
6) Fair Use VS Classroom Use
7) Errors and Omissions Insurance (http://sb.thehartford.com/learn_insurance/errors.asp)
