The Machine Stops
Posted on May 29, 2005
I was doing homework today, I know - it's a shocker - and read an allusion to E.M. Forester's "The Machine Stops". Interestingly enough, the article related how we in today's society are becoming more and more dependant on instant man made technology, just like the futuristic fantasy world laid out in Forester's short story of 1909. They have everything from the equivalent to instant messaging to video conferencing.
I was interested, to say the least, about this story and decided to find it on Amazon.com, but wasn't about to pay the $12 plus S&H to get it. I put to work my amazing google-whacking abilities and found that it was re-created, in full, on serveral websites. As much as I hate reading on a computer screen, I must admit this one is worth it! If you are interested, I took the liberty of posting my own copy - which you should really check out!
